J&J Candles began in the home of James and Joyce Gaylor after their retirement. Joyce began making candles in her kitchen as gifts for family and friends. She experimented with scented oils and paraffin until she was able to create the most highly scented jar candle possible.
Because the candles were such a huge hit, Joyce began to sell them from her home. In just a few short months, James and Joyce moved their candle making venture out of their home and into a small building in Gadsden, AL. James and Joyce were propelled out of retirement into a fast growing small business.
Within a couple of years, J&J Candles began shipping their unique, hand-poured, highly-scented candles all over the United States to wholesalers and candle-lovers alike. J &J Candles opened in Rome, Georgia and the candle-making operation in Gadsden was relocated to a much larger building to handle the demand. James and Joyce’s children and grandchildren quickly became involved in the business as more scents were added, more resellers signed up and the local demand continued to grow. Schools and clubs discovered J&J Candles are excellent for fundraising.
Today, James and Joyce are enjoying their retirement (from candle-making this time). Currently owned and operated by Dennis & Nikki Gaylor, J&J Candles is located in historic downtown Gadsden. There are almost 300 different scents available and J&J Candles continues to supply highly-scented, hand-poured candles all over the US.
